- Can - Permissão/habilidade
Ex.: I can dance. (Eu consigo dançar)
She can speak English. (Ela consegue falar Inglês)
Can I get in (the car)? (Eu posso entrar no carro?).
Greg can´t play an instrument. (Greg não consegue tocar um instrumento).
- May- Permissão/possibilidade
Ex.: May I smoke here? (Posso fumar aqui?)
May I sit here? (Posso sentar-me aqui?)
May I go to the bathroom? (Posso ir à casa de banho?)
May I go to the cinema on Saturday? (Posso ir ao cinema no sábado?)
It may arrive tomorrow. (Pode ser que chegue amanhã).
- Must- Obrigação/proibição- A forma negativa significa proibição (must not ou mustn´t)
Ex.: You must stop smoking. (Tu tens de parar de fumar).
You must go to the school. (Tu tens de ir para a escola).
You mustn´t get out of the bed. (Tu não podes sair da cama).
